Responsibilities
The Senior Director of AI is a strategic leadership role in AI reporting to the CIO at Enlyte. This position will establish and lead our new AI Center of Excellence (AICOE), driving the enterprise-wide artificial intelligence strategy, governance, and innovation. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise in AI/ML with strong business acumen and leadership skills to provide guidance, establish standards, and foster innovation across the organization.
As the AI thought leader for Enlyte, you will work closely with executive leadership to establish governance frameworks, identify innovation opportunities, and collaborate with existing business unit AI teams to ensure alignment with enterprise standards while enabling their success. This role focuses on governance, best practices, and innovation rather than centralized development of all AI solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Develop and execute Enlyte's enterprise AI strategy and governance framework
 - Establish clear guardrails, policies, and standards for responsible AI development across the organization
 - Serve as the company's thought leader and evangelist for AI capabilities and opportunities
 - Advise the CIO and leadership team on emerging AI trends and technologies
 - Champion AI adoption across the organization, driving cultural change and building awareness
 - Create a centralized knowledge repository of AI best practices and lessons learned
 
Innovation & Enablement
- Identify and incubate innovative AI use cases with high business impact potential
 - Provide technical guidance and support to business unit AI teams
 - Establish a framework for evaluating and adopting new AI technologies and approaches
 - Create reusable components, patterns, and accelerators to enable faster AI implementation
 - Foster cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing between AI teams
 - Drive experimentation and proof-of-concepts for emerging AI technologies
 
AI Governance & Risk Management
- Develop enterprise-wide AI governance frameworks including ethics, privacy, and compliance
 - Partner with legal, compliance, and security teams to ensure responsible AI use
 - Establish processes for AI model validation, testing, and monitoring
 - Mitigate risks associated with AI implementation including bias and explainability
 - Stay current with evolving AI regulations and industry standards
 - Define and enforce guardrails for AI development across the organization
 
Center of Excellence Leadership
- Build and lead a small, specialized team of AI/ML experts focused on governance and innovation
 - Create communities of practice to connect AI practitioners across business units
 - Establish training programs to upskill existing technical staff on AI capabilities
 - Develop AI literacy programs for non-technical stakeholders
 - Foster a culture of innovation and responsible AI use across the organization
 
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with business unit AI teams to ensure alignment with enterprise standards
 - Collaborate with data teams to establish data quality standards for AI initiatives
 - Work with cloud migration teams to align AI infrastructure with AWS strategy
 - Engage with product teams to provide guidance on AI capabilities and best practices
 - Build relationships with external partners and vendors in the AI ecosystem
 - Facilitate knowledge sharing between business unit AI teams
 
Qualifications
Required Experience
- 10+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or AI fields
 - 5+ years in leadership roles related to AI governance, strategy, or innovation
 - Proven track record of establishing AI governance frameworks and standards
 - Experience collaborating with and influencing distributed AI teams
 - Strong technical background in modern AI/ML technologies and methodologies
 - Experience with large language models (LLMs) and generative AI applications
 - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field
 
Technical Expertise Requirements
- Deep expertise in modern AI frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX) and their enterprise applications
 - Hands-on experience with large language models (e.g., GPT, Claude, Llama) and configuring, prompt engineering and fine-tuning LLMs
 - Proficiency in implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture
 - Experience with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone) and embedding models
 - Knowledge of MLOps practices and tools for model governance, monitoring, and lifecycle management
 - Expertise in evaluating and governing foundation models for specific domains
 - Experience implementing AI governance tools and frameworks for responsible AI
 - Understanding of AI infrastructure requirements, including GPU/TPU optimization
 - Experience with AI services like (Bedrock, SageMaker, etc.) or other cloud platforms
 - Knowledge of AI evaluation metrics and techniques for model assessment
 - Experience with multimodal AI systems (text, image, audio) and their applications
 - Proficiency in Python and related data science libraries (pandas, scikit-learn, etc.)
 - Understanding of data engineering principles for AI workloads
 - Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) for AI deployments
 
Preferred Experience
- Experience in healthcare, insurance, or related industries
 - Knowledge of AWS AI/ML services and infrastructure
 - Background in building AI Centers of Excellence or similar functions
 - Experience with responsible AI frameworks and ethical considerations
 - Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in AI, Machine Learning, or related field
 - Experience aligning multiple AI teams across business units to a common strategy
 - Track record of successful AI governance implementation in enterprise environments
